At the event of the First International Conference on Intelligent Computing & Optimization (ICO) in Pattaya, Thailand, at October 4-5, 2018 (, we invite brilliant ideas as submissions to a Special Session on Application of Intelligent Computing and Optimization Methods to Future Smart Grid and Micro-Grid Systems.

A smart grid is an electrical grid which includes a variety of operational and energy measures including smart meters, smart appliances, renewable energy resources, and energy efficient resources. Electronic power conditioning and control of the production and distribution of electricity are important aspects of the smart grid.

Intelligent computing and Optimization are one of the most remarkable research interests within the scientific community. That is because of its wide scope covering different fields of modern life and providing effective results to obtain optimum values for mathematically modeled real-world problems. In Electrical Engineering, optimization and evolutionary computing has been widely suggested to be used in modern power system control and operation. In this special session, therefore, we focus on providing new optimization and intelligent computation-based control scheme that can be used in the existing and future power systems. Also, this special session takes into account suggesting new optimal operation methods that can be applied to both of smart grid and micro-grid systems.

A selection of the best papers will be recommended for publication in special issues of scientific journals, or as an edited book.

Topics of interest related to Ambient Intelligence: but not limited to

  1. Modern power system operation and control.

  2. Smart grid.

  3. Micro-grid systems.

  4. Integrated electric vehicles (EVs) and intelligent loads to power systems.

  5. Demand response, and demand side management.

  6. Evolutionary computing based optimization and control in power systems.
